About MVFT

About

MVFT is a union of more than 1,000 members that includes Teachers, Teaching Assistants, and Security Monitors in the Mount Vernon City School District of Westchester County, NY.

The MVFT is a member of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA). NYSUT is also part of organized labor—the AFL-CIO—and of Education International, with more than 20 million members worldwide.

Through a representative democratic structure, the MVFT is committed to improving the quality of education for all students, ensuring safe working conditions, supporting community programs for families in need, and negotiating a fair contract.

Our Affiliations

New York State United Teachers (NYSUT)

NYSUT is 600,000 members strong, giving members a voice and the ability to fight for fair salaries, stronger pensions and better health care. NYSUT is a federation of more than 1,200 local unions, each representing its own members.

They're working to roll back misguided state testing requirements and advocate for the fair treatment of all members. By working together, we can keep our union strong.

AFL-CIO

The AFL-CIO is a democratically governed federation of 57 unions, each with its own distinct membership and unique voice. Our members have come together to build and support the rights of working people. In pursuit of these goals, we also fight to vanquish social and economic injustice. We are also affiliate Education International with more than 20 million members worldwide.

American Federation of Teachers

The American Federation of Teachers, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, was founded in 1916 and today represents 1.7 million members in more than 3,000 local affiliates nationwide. The American Federation of Teachers is a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities. They are committed to advancing these principles through community engagement, organizing, collective bargaining and political activism, and especially through the work our members do.
